令人流連忘返的專輯John Mayer’s Battle Studies

當宣可正在為Jason Mraz的葛拉美獎勝利喝采時，John Mayer 在去年底的新專輯 Battle Studies正在全面攫獲世界各地樂迷的心，包括宣可的老友音樂人陳子鴻。宣可相信：大家聽到John Mayer 的專輯應該會有種不禁流連忘返的感覺。

宣可最為著迷的一首歌，也看到Youtube上各地樂迷開始PO上自己的Cover版本；這首歌叫做 “Edge of Desire"（國內正版專輯翻譯成"激情邊緣"）。

宣可第一次聽到就愛上這首歌，Mayer的才氣縱橫絕非浪得虛名，詞曲都自己來以外，吉他也是自己彈的。歌曲聽來充滿詩意，吉他彈奏宣可覺得會成為這一代的Every breath you take那樣經典。

雖然Mayer的負面新聞不斷，主要都是因為他和太多名女人交往，落得花心之名在外。

最近又在今年2月10日出刊的Playboy雜誌訪問中，談到之前的一任女友Jessica Simpson，形容兩個人的關係是「性燃燒彈」，另外又在Twitter中用了冒犯到黑人的字眼。（唉！）

然而生活面的種種爭議，好像完全沒有影響到他的才氣，Mayer整張專輯詞曲都是自己創作，除了一首"Crossroads"。這是另外一首令宣可感到震撼的歌曲。

“Crossroads Blues"一曲在搖滾史上有其特殊意義。他是20世紀美國30年代傳奇的藍調吉他歌者Robert Johnson生前29首歌曲中最有名的一首。

到了1968年3月10日，來自英國的Cream合唱團在美國舊金山的Winterland Ballroom演唱，由Eric Clapton自彈翻唱Robert Johnson的名曲"Crossroads"，成為當時那代吉他手們的指標經典曲（包括Eddie Van Halen在諸多訪問中都說明這是最初始影響他的吉他手和曲子）。
