宣可音樂管道

經過時間的淬練，John Mayer的吉他說明他有多性感。（2021.8.7.更新） 宣可已經那麼喜歡Jason Mraz，當然對他為何沒拿到葛拉美獎感到不解。然而聽了最佳男主唱John Mayer，只好說「既生瑜，何生亮。」

最後的得獎者：John Mayer

所有在Jason Mraz身上看到的優點，John Mayer就有他相對的競爭條件。從WIKI網站看到John Mayer的介紹，他於1977年10月16日在美國Bridgeport, Connecticut出生。母親Margaret 是英文老師，父親 Richard 是高中校長。家中三個小孩，他排行老二。當他在中學時曾在Conan O’Brien的晚間節目中表演黑管（Joe Bonamassa的樂團也上過這個節目）。

當他看到電影「回到未來」中的男主角 Marty McFly （由Michael J. Fox飾演，請見宣可網誌 http://blog.xuite.net/mr.tu/guitar/16261190 ) 在劇中彈奏Johnny B. Good，他開始迷上吉他。在他13歲時，父親租了一把吉他給他。在Mayer拿到吉他不久，他的鄰居給他一捲Stevie Ray Vaughan的卡帶，這使得Mayer強烈地愛上藍調音樂。雖然父母對他彈吉他的態度很保留，但是他除了像是這個年紀的年輕人和女朋友約會以外，其他的時間都躲在房間彈吉他，練習他心中的吉他眾神們 Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, and Robert Cray的吉他solo。(宣可相信他真地很愛SRV的東西，所以曾很努力地練習過心中偶像的東西，請見以下這小段video) 

15歲時，他告訴父母他可能會休學，因為他將成為著名的吉他手。然而父母對於他幾近狂熱練吉他的情形非常擔心，甚至曾帶他去看過心理醫生。

在他17歲時，因為心律不整住進了醫院，John Mayer的描述是在這段時間他開始發現自己內在的創作者，就在出院回家那天晚上，他寫下生平的第一首歌詞。高中畢業後，他進入了在Boston著名的音樂學院 Berklee College of Music卻在20歲時提前離開並搬到 Atlanta。他開始在當地的club表演，並嶄露頭角。他到德州Austin表演時獲得了一些唱片界注意。

2001年他的第二張專輯 Room for Squares，獲得相當好的評價，被譽為有敏銳、打動人心的嗓音、無所畏懼的情感流露。 接下來，他唱的"Your Body is a Wonderland"，在2003年拿到葛拉美獎 Best Male Pop Vocal Performance，當人紅了，John Mayer的感情世界不斷變成報導焦點，這首歌變成一些八卦媒體不斷想要釐清的新聞的梗（究竟哪位名女人的身體是他的wonderland？），成為藝人成名最常出現的盛名之累。這首歌在獲得正面聲譽同時，也成為 Blender 雜誌「50首史上最糟歌曲」第28名。

2003年他出了Heavier Things專輯，2005年他探索藍調音樂創作，組了 John Mayer Trio；成員除他自己擔任主唱、吉他，還有Pino Palladino擔任貝斯，Steve Jordan擔任鼓和合音。他們出了一張名為Try的專輯。 

到了2006年"Continuum"專輯再度大放異彩，成為葛拉美獎最佳流行歌曲專輯，他也因"Waiting on the World to Change"一曲成為最佳男主唱。

時代雜誌(Time)的編輯們也將Mayer列為2007年在藝人娛樂界最有影響力的100名人物。他在滾石雜誌 (Rolling Stone,#1020) 2007年2月的封面和John Frusciante and Derek Trucks三人被下標題為「新吉他之神」(New Guitar Gods)，Mayer被取了"slowhand, Jr."的綽號，這可是對照Eric Clapton（當年綽號即是slowhand）。宣可當時看到那個封面時很懷疑（有那麼多吉他之神嗎？），於是也只是伴隨著老音樂和工作一起奮鬥，忽略了這些新人可能帶來的能量與新意。 

在Continuum這張專輯的第8首歌“Stop this Train"，是Mayer稱自己在「孤獨求精進期」（solitary refinement）所創作的，當時正在轉換新居期間，住在旅館內，卻因腎結石問題痛苦臥病在床。這首歌其實已經寫好在某些演唱場合發表過，如下面2005年的表演。

 

 

到了2008年的"Where the light is"現場專輯，Mayer已經把這首歌表現到淋漓盡致。如同Mraz的表演，令宣可如癡如醉，一看再看。
